Herbst renames, renovates acquired Sands properties in Northern Nevada
Herbst Gaming Inc.'s $148-million buyout of the Sands Regent holdings took another step forward with the announcement of the renaming of the Northern Nevada properties. Herbst also said all 1,100 employees would remain.
"We are not jumping in real fast making dramatic changes," Ferenc Szony, president of Sands and current overseer of the properties, told the Reno Gazette-Journal.
The Sands Regency, Rail City, The Depot and Gold Ranch will be changed to, respectively: Sands Regency, a Terrible's casino; Terrible's Rail City; Terrible's Casino Dayton; and Terrible's Gold Ranch.
Additionally, previously begun renovations on the properties will continue under Herbst. "At the Sands, we were in the midst of doing interior renovation when this transaction happened, and Herbst has been very enthusiastic about investing additional dollars into Sands," Szony said.
The $13.5-million expansion begun last June at Rail City will continue, and Gold Ranch will also see renovations, but no major changes for now. "We may hold off and do something more dramatic in the future," Szony said.
