G2S protocol reference implementation released
Incredible Technologies Inc. creates public domain with release via SourceForge.com
Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Incredible Technologies Inc., a member of the Gaming Standards Association (GSA), has released a G2S protocol reference implementation through SourceForge.com, the world’s largest development and download repository of open source code and applications.
The G2S reference implementation, available at www.sourceforge.net/projects/openg2s, will allow developers another avenue to access the open protocol.
“Our G2S implementation is available for free download over the Internet, as is the G2S protocol, so developers will have the ability to refer to a standard source code while creating their own version,” said Scott Schoenberg, Incredible Technologies’ director of server technology. “We want to continue to build the environment of openness that has so far sustained GSA and its protocols.”
Schoenberg said that once a standard method is adopted by many companies, redundant development cycles can be eliminated, allowing for more innovative products and easier implementation for developers as well as casino operators.
In a recent release, Incredible Technologies noted that a protocol reference implementation is basically software source code that allows interested parties to understand how to implement a protocol in their own systems. “By making the implementation public, Incredible Technologies is proclaiming that they are not taking a proprietary stance on the company’s G2S implementation which will be a benefit to everyone in the gaming community,” the company said in the release.
