Global Payment Technologies of Hauppauge, N.Y. has launched its ADVANTAGE Currency Validator with Motorola's latest hybrid controller. The ADVANTAGE, used primarily for the casino marketplace, combines GPT's powerful optical recognition hardware with the power of Motorola's DSP processor.
The DSP processor supports all of GPT's current algorithms, but provides a greatly reduced cycle time completion (less than 0.1 seconds vs. 1.75 to 3 seconds). The increased power allows GPT to develop even more powerful algorithms.
The use of the Motorola chip also allows GPT to switch from a stepper motor powered transport to a DC motor, reducing cost, power requirements and complexity, while providing a smoother note transport. The chip is also used for the on-chip timer/counters to provide PWM control for the DC motor as well as encoder feedback for speed and positioning.
All of these enhancements translate into a faster, more accurate, more cost-effective bill validator that GPT is able to offer casinos.
