Wynn looking to add rooms, meeting space
July 1, 2008

Behind the core Wynn Las Vegas, Steve Wynn hopes to build two new hotels and add 1.8 million square feet of meeting space.
His lavish Encore project isn’t even complete, but
already, Steve Wynn is planning his next great feat. Wynn, during a conference
call in May, told investors that he plans to build utilize the golf course
grounds behind Wynn Las Vegas and the Encore project to build two new hotel
towers and a massive meeting and convention facility.
Wynn’s
plans call for 5,200 rooms and 1.8 million square feet of conventions space. No
cost estimates or timetable was given for the project, but Wynn said the
project would include features like underground trams to shuttle passengers to
and from nearby convention facilities and a manmade lake with fountains similar
to his former Bellagio property.
“The layout of our property lends itself to such
a beautiful arrangement,” Wynn said during the conference
call.
Many expect the announced project to be completed
after the 2010 date of Las Vegas Sands $680 million renovation and expansion of
its own Sands Expo and Convention Center. Wynn’s convention facility would be
adjacent to both the Sands and the Las
Vegas Convention Center,
creating a meeting and convention “complex” with more than five million square
feet between the three. Wynn’s facility would also be among the top in the
nation in size.
“Both of the new hotels will be completely
integrated with the exhibit space,” Wynn was quoted in a transcript of the conference
call published by the Web site Seeking Alpha. “And when I say completely
integrated, you will walk out of the lobby, down a 150-foot corridor into the
exhibit space … And I think when we're done, we will have this wonderful
nonurban environment ... people will be able to enjoy when they come for
conventions and meeting space.”
