Seminole Casino Coconut Creek wins marketing honor

The Barona/VCAT Award for Excellence In Indian Gaming Marketing was awarded to Seminole Casino Coconut Creek at a special industry luncheon on February 1 at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa, Rancho Mirage, Calif., during Raving Consulting’s 14th Indian Gaming National Marketing Conference.
“Seminole Casino Coconut Creek has always entertained me with their constant unusual and creative promotions, such as Dinner in the Sky, Cocktails and Tiffany’s, Heroes and Miracles (Chilean Miners); but what has truly impressed me is that all of these promotions drive revenue and speak to their key constituencies,” said Dennis Conrad, president and chief strategist, Raving Consulting and creator of the award.
Seminole Casino Coconut Creek joins industry leaders Barona Resort and Casino, Calif. (2007), Santa Ana Star Casino, N.M. (2008), Black Oak Casino and the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians (2009), and Osage Million Dollar Elm Casinos (2011) in receiving the award.
The 2012 judges for the award included Greg Shay, CEO of VCAT; Troy Simpson, assistant general manager, Barona Resort and Casino; Jennifer Bighorse, director of marketing, Osage Casinos; and Conrad.
Created five year ago, the Barona/VCAT Award for Excellence In Indian Gaming Marketing is the only honor in gaming that recognizes the marketing efforts of tribal casinos and acknowledges their importance in the success of a gaming enterprise. Each year a tribal artisan is selected to create a custom award. This year’s award was created by Candace Penney, a member of the Tolowa, Chetco, Tututni, Wailacki, Pomo and Wintun Tribes, and marketing manager of Lucky 7 Casino in Smith River, Calif. She hand-picked a piece of redwood burl and spent over 36 hours creating custom beadwork.
