June 3, 2010
DT Research, Inc., a leader in the development of information appliances for vertical markets, has announced the creation of the WebDT 410 and WebDT415 Point-of-Service handhelds.
The new handhelds are designed for quick customer service applications, such as mobile order-taking, ticket scanning, payment processing, and inventory management.
The WebDT 410 and 415 offer the ultimate usability in a handheld Point-of-Service solution with a 3.5-inch resistive touch, outdoor-viewable display. These are the first handheld devices to include a fully integrated MSR, RFID reader and barcode scanner. The WebDT 400 handhelds offer the tools to improve customer service with the same staff and reduce costs by streamlining business processes.
The WebDT Point-of-Service Handhelds can be designated for specific applications and business processes. This directly translates into greater ease-of-use as businesses are not paying for unnecessary features. The WebDT 400 handhelds have a unique, rugged design, with an IP54 rating for liquid and dust resistance – ideal for use in hospitality, commercial, outdoor/field, warehousing, and healthcare environments. The WebDT 410 offers a fully-integrated magnetic stripe reader (MSR) and RFID reader, and the WebDT 415 includes a barcode scanner, dramatically enhancing ease-of-use and reliability.
The WebDT 400 series offers the only handheld POS devices that include remote management software. The WebDT Device Manager simplifies the management of multiple devices, especially useful for large deployments, such as in retail, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment.
Both models feature hot-swappable batteries that support up to eight hours of use. Other features include programmable buttons, wireless networking and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as LED paging alert capability. Support for Microsoft Windows CE and Mobile 6 provide platforms that are compatible with many third-party applications.
By providing on-the-spot order taking, payment processing and ticket scanning, businesses can quickly assist every customer on the premises with a wide range of services and real-time information. Organizations can also increase sales through instantaneous up-selling and cross-selling.
The company indicated the handhelds could be used in a wide variety of applications for many industries. For instance, it notes the hotel-casino industry could use the WebDT 400 series to register guests from anywhere on the property – reducing wait time for customers. In addition, service staff can quickly process drink and food orders – whether on the casino floor or poolside.
