Penn unveils $336M riverboat in Indiana
July 1, 2009
Opening ceremonies were held this week for a new $336 million floating casino in southeastern Indiana.
The new Hollywood Casino on the Ohio River at Lawrenceburg replaces the 13-year-old Argosy Casino.
The new boat is more than twice the size of the old one and has about 4,400 gambling positions, which Pennsylvania-based owner Penn National Gaming says is the most of any riverboat casino in the United States. Hollywood will be able to comfortably handle as many as 8,000 gamblers at once, compared to only 3,800 on the old Argosy, the company said.
The new casino also will provide 250 additional jobs.
The Lawrenceburg and Hammond markets are Indiana’s busiest.
