May 27, 2011
The Kansas Star Casino, a Peninsula Gaming property located in Mulvane, has received nearly 4,000 online applications for jobs, according to company officials.
"We expected there would be a lot of applications, but we're obviously thrilled at the number of people who want to be part of the team," Peninsula spokeswoman Carrie Tedor told the Wichita Eagle.
Set to open in early 2012, the initial phase of the Kansas Star will feature 1,310 slot machines, 32 table games and a range of food-and-beverage options. The second phase provides for 1,750 slots, 50 table games and a five-table poker room. Non-gaming amenities will include the Kansas Star hotel, with 300 rooms and enhanced dining options, a 4,200-seat arena which will host a variety of events, a 40-space RV park and a 24-acre equine center.
Peninsula expects to hire up to 575 workers for the opening of its first phase, at an estimated average annual salary of $38,000. When the casino is complete, it will employ more than 800 people. Peninsula currently operates four casino properties, which include: the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque, Iowa; the Diamond Jo Casino in Worth County, Iowa; the Amelia Belle Casino in Amelia, La.; and the Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino in St. Landry Parish, La.
