Mount Airy Casino cuts slot floor by 200
November 23, 2011
Mount Airy Casino Resort has received approval from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to reduce the number of slot machines on its floor by 200. The reduction, the second at Mount Airy in the past year, leaves the property with 2,075 machines.
The move will also allow the operator to move its poker room to the property’s third floor casino and create a waiting area for players. Mount Airy’s high-limit slot room will trade places with the poker room and grow in size from 22 machines to 64 machines.
According to the Pocono Record, in its application to the board, Mount Airy said the relocation of the 1,984-square-foot poker room to the third floor will allow the casino "to create a more spacious and comfortable experience for the poker customer." Players will also benefit from a new 822-square-foot waiting area. "Currently, customers waiting to play poker must stand outside of the existing poker room until a seat opens up," the application says. The number of poker tables will remain at 11.
Mount Airy applied for a 6% reduction in the number of machines last December, which has helped push its win-per-machine from $175 to $188, still the lowest average in the state of Pennsylvania. The property opened in 2007 and once offered over 2,400 machines.
