Horseshoe Cleveland to open week of May 14
February 21, 2012
Rock Gaming and Caesars Entertainment are targeting the week of May 14 as the opening date for their $350 million Horseshoe Cleveland project, said principal Jeff Cohen, during a media tour. The casino will be the first of four voter-approved casinos to open in Ohio.
"When you've got 600 construction people a day in here, it's truly amazing how this place progresses each and every day," said Cohen, according to the Associated Press. "Every day you come in here there's just a total transformation from one day to the next.”
The three-story casino will open up in the former Higbee department store in the heart of the city. It will employ 1,600 people and open with 700 slot machines at street level. The second floor the building will have 1,400 slots, 34 table games and a food court with three outlets. The top floor will have a VIP lounge and high-limit gaming tables.
Following Horseshoe Cleveland, Penn National Gaming plans to open the first of its two Ohio properties in Toledo in late May, with a second planned for Columbus. Another Caesars partnership, Rock Ohio, is developing a casino in Cincinnati.
