POKAGON BAND OF POTAWATOMI INDIANS
Matt Wesaw has been elected chairman of the Tribal Council of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, owners of the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, Mich. Wesaw, who succeeds John Miller, was vice chairman of the council from 1995 to 1998 and later chairman. From 2002 to 2005 he served as a council member-at-large and as vice chairman beginning in 2006. He is a former Michigan state trooper and a former director of government relations for the Trooper Association.
Replacing him as vice chairman is Butch Starrett, a member-at-large since 2000. Lynn Davidson has replaced Gerald Wesaw as Elder’s Representative on the council. Davidson served as a member-at-large from August 2005 through May 2006. Edna Faye Wesaw, a former member-at-large, was elected tribal secretary. Alice Overly was elected a member-at-large, a position she held from 1999 to 2001.
