Internet gambling in Spain generated revenues of â¬85.7 million in the third quarter of 2009.
A report in Europa Press said Internet sales in Spain from all sectors topped â¬1.5 billion for the first time in the third quarter, citing a report by the country’s Telecommunications Market Commission. It was a 13.2 percent increase over the same period in 2008 and brought with it record trading volume of 18.57 million transactions, 8.5 percent more than 3Q08.
Tourism - including travel agencies, air transport, land passenger and hotels, apartments and camping - accounted for more than 40 percent of total revenues at â¬605.9 million.
Gambling was the third-highest.
Tourism also accounted for 70 percent of online sales from outside the country, followed by education and direct marketing at a distant second and third, respectively, with 7.4% and 6.6% of total activity.
Most purchases were made on the Spanish Web sites, 54.9 percent of total e-commerce revenues (â¬824.9 million), while purchases on foreign sites totaled 45.1 percent (â¬678.3 million).
