Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has introduced legislation to curtail Internet wagering and other forms of gaming outside of the nation’s designated Gambling Zones.

According to Itar-Tass, the draft federal law would impose fines ranging from 500,000 to 1 million rubles (US$18,000-US$36,000) and prison terms ranging from three to six years for individuals and groups organizing and holding gaming outside gambling zones. In addition to brick-and-mortar facilities, this law targets gaming activities taking place over communications networks such as the Internet and mobile phones.
