If the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce gets its way, a casino will soon be coming to the sprawling northern New Jersey sports complex that is also home to the New York Jets and Giants NFL teams.

In addition to a 130,000-square-foot casino with 3,000 slots and 100 table games, the chamber’s recently unveiled redevelopment plan calls for 1,000-room hotel, a convention center, a youth center, an aquatics center and replacement of the Big M racetrack with a more modern facility. The chamber estimated it will take four years to fully develop the site.

Various state agencies have to sign off on the project before construction can begin. If approved, the Meadowland casino will be the first New Jersey gaming property outside of Atlantic City.
