Smart phone betting app launched in Nevada
American Wagering has launched the United States’ first legal betting application for smart phones.
Available currently only in Nevada, where sports betting is legal, the BlackBerry app was made operational in time for the start of the college football and National Football League seasons, the U.S. games that are most heavily bet.
Vic Salerno, American Wagering’s chief executive, said it took 14 months to develop the application and get it approved by Nevada gambling regulators.
The application requires bettors to appear at a sports book in person when first creating their account with Leroy’s, the state’s largest bookmaking syndicate. When bettors log in to the system, a combination of GPS and cellular tower coordinates verify they are within Nevada’s borders before allowing them to place a bet.
