Recently released statistics from France’s online gaming authority Arjel show that customers have spent €1.02 billion at the nation’s online gaming sites since the market was liberalized in June 2010 (€1 = US$1.44).

The lion’s share of this amount has been generated by sports wagering, which attracted €741 million in spend. Customers also spend €9.55 million on horse racing and €7.48 million on casino-style cash games.

Thirty-six licensed operators in France hold 50 licenses in these three categories, according to Reuters. Arjel reports there are 2.9 million active wagering accounts.
