SKYCITY LOOKS TO RECAPTURE HIGH-ROLLER TRADE
The resort, which will be developed adjacent to SKYCITY, will be comprised of four super villas and 32 luxury guestrooms, some offering a swim-in, swim-out experience, built around a lush tropical lagoon with a swim-up bar and private beach. All rooms will also include secluded decks and balconies, quality fit-out and the latest in-room entertainment, according to company literature.
The goal of the new development is to attract upper-end clientele currently bypassing SKYCITY to stay and game at newer resorts elsewhere in Asia. “We are looking to create a new world class dedicated international gaming facility which would upgrade Darwin’s casino offering to an equivalent standard to competitor properties in the region and complement the luxury villas of the new SKYCITY lagoon resort,” said Nigel Morrison, chief executive of SKYCITY Entertainment Group. “SKYCITY is also working closely with the Northern Territory Government and looking at options to improve access into Darwin from key Asian cities, including the development of new air routes. We are also looking seriously at the operation of a corporate jet to shuttle international VIPs between key Asian cities and Darwin.”
The new resort is scheduled to open the second quarter of 2012.
