OBITUARY: Matt Connor, former Indian Gaming Business editor, 46
It is with much sadness that we must report the passing of Matt Connor, former editor for Casino Journal, International Gaming Wagering Business and Indian Gaming Business magazines and frequent freelance contributor to various BNP Media gaming publications, who lost a long battle to cancer last month.
Connor had over 20 years experience writing for trade and consumer magazines, newspapers, radio, book publishing and the Internet, receiving many accolades and awards over that time span. Since 2004, he was a resident of Lock Haven, Pa., where he was a regular columnist for the Lock Haven Express newspaper, winning six Keystone Press Association awards for his writing. Connor also authored two books (Watering Hole: The Colorful History of Booze, Sex and Death at a New Jersey Tavern and a soon-to-be-published history of Lock Haven University) and supported numerous civic groups, most notably Lock Haven University, his alma mater.
In honor of Connor and his contributions to the local community, Lock Haven University has established the Matthew Connor Excellence in Journalistic Writing Scholarship which will be awarded annually to a deserving LHU journalism major. Contributions may be made to The Matthew Connor Excellence in Journalistic Writing Scholarship, c/o Lock Haven University Foundation, 10 Susquehanna Ave., Lock Haven, Pa., 17745.
