The 17-event Senior Poker Tour (SPT) is set to launch next week with an inaugural tournament at Horseshoe Casino Tunica in Mississippi. To bring attention to the event, which will take place January 15-19, SPT executives announced three World Series of Poker (WSOP) circuit entries will be added to the tournament’s prize pool.
The winner of the SPT Championship will win an entry to the WSOPC Tunica Circuit Main Event in addition to the prize money of the tournament itself. Additionally, the winners of the SPT Omaha Hi/Lo Championship and HORSE Championship will win entries to the WSOPC Omaha Hi/Lo and the WSOP Circuit HORSE events on January 28th and 29th respectively.
Senior Poker Tour is a company engaged in the creation and marketing of tournament events featuring players from around the world who are 50+ years in age. "This tour is like no other for this segment of the market,” said Hal Coblentz, SPT vice president in a prepared statement. “The poker industry is recognizing the popularity of senior's events and now with the Senior Poker Tour, the response has been incredible. We are excited to be the trendsetter in this portion of the poker world."
Upcoming SPT series will be held at Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas in April and Atlantis Casino Resort in Reno in August. "We are in talks with several poker rooms around the country and hope to have the added stops published soon," said Lupe Soto, SPT CEO, in a prepared statement.
