Through multiple conservation efforts, Circus Circus Reno is proud to share that 2016 was a record recycling year for the 1,571 room hotel casino.
In a report received from Waste Management, Circus Reno’s recycling diversion rate for 2016 was close to 18.5 percent, meaning 18.5 percent of the property’s total waste stream was recycled as opposed to being sent to a landfill, according to a press release. In 2016, Circus Reno recycled 256,000 pounds of single stream/white paper, glass and plastic bottles; 206,000 pounds of cardboard; 69,000 pounds of shredded paper; 9,000 pounds of miscellaneous plastics; and 8,000 pounds of electronic waste.
As part of Eldorado Resorts’ $50 million reinvestment into its Downtown Reno properties, Circus Circus Reno also recently installed energy-saving LED lighting to illuminate the exteriors of its two hotel towers. Making the switch from previous raceway-style lights to LED lighting was a positive green initiative for the hotel casino resulting in 90 percent less power usage than regular light bulbs and ultimately resulting in a dramatic decrease in power costs.
