Each year I devote this space to what I consider to be the most interesting slot machine games coming out of Global Gaming Expo (G2E). I don’t see any reason to change this approach now.

As usual, the gaming machine vendors did not make this task easy, showcasing hundreds of new game prototypes, cabinets and various other slot-centric products. That said, here are the items that spoke to me during my many booth visits along the long and winding road that was the G2E 2018 tradeshow floor:

American Gods 4D—IGT

Here is how IGT describes this new game:

Building on the success of IGT’s Sphinx 4D and Ghostbusters 4D, IGT presented the latest title in its TRUE 4D family with American Gods 4D. This new game features scenes and characters from the namesake TV series, and ignites player excitement with its gripping graphics and multi-sensory gaming experience on the CrystalCurve TRUE 4D gaming machine.

Frankly, this game had me at the mention of 4D. I love this play mechanic and I believe IGT can put it on almost any game and be successful. It also helps that I am a fan of the American Godstelevision show and Neil Gaiman, the author who penned the book it’s based on.

Snoop Dogg Presents The Joker’s Wild—Everi

Here is Everi’s description of the game:

Everi’s Renegade 3600 offering is a larger-than-life hardware platform. The wide-area progressive (WAP) banked solution features three 43-inch convex curved monitors which combine to create a unique visual bonus experience along with a sign-based speaker package that supplements the sound capabilities of the individual Core HDX gaming cabinets. The platform offers a unique floor-wide celebration environment that is sure to turn heads. The Renegade 3600 will debut two new games: Smokin’ Hot Stuff Jackpots, a new version of Smokin’ Hot Stuff based on the friendly and fiery comic book character, and Snoop Dogg Presents The Joker’s Wild, which is based on the popular new Snoop Dogg-hosted version of the classic TV game show that airs on TBS and where players compete by matching symbols on three reels and answering questions.

One of the items that attracted me to this game is its topper element, which emulates a three-reel spinning slot and is a perfect thematic fit. I also like the direction Everi is taking with its licensed products, going for the offbeat instead of mainstream, as evidenced by Snoop Dogg and its Willie Nelson line of slot games.

Vegas Rise—Konami Gaming

And here’s how Konami describes its own game:

Vegas Rise is one of four debut launch themes in Konami’s new Reels Up linked progressive series. This ULTRA REELS PRIME title features “up arrow” symbols across all five reels, which trigger the game’s Reels Up feature. Whenever the arrows land on reels one and two, it causes reel three to expand upward for the chance to spin a bonus cash reel filled with instant guaranteed awards. Reel four and reel five also expanded up into independent cash reels when arrows land in each of the preceding reels. All the bonus cash reels contain instant credit prize and jackpot opportunities, including the big supreme. Vegas Rise is multi-denom, integrated linked progressive showcased on KX 43 in 4K Ultra HD.

What works for me with this game is that the bonus feature sets off a slot machine within a slot machine type play mechanic, which I thought dovetailed nicely into the game’s overarching theme.

Hopefully this provides a taste of what the G2E tradeshow floor was like this year. Honestly, it was one of the better G2E events I have been to in the last 30 years.
