Two things stand out. Modo wins on redemptions by a wide margin, which carries it to first place despite a modest welcome score. Zula and Stake.us have two of the biggest lobbies, but Zula scores low on redemptions and support, and Stake.us on its welcome offer, which keeps both in the second half of the list.
How sweepstakes casinos work
An online sweepstakes casino, sometimes called a social casino sweepstakes site, looks like any casino site: slots, table games, live dealers and jackpots. The difference sits in the coins. You never stake dollars. Instead, you play with two virtual currencies, and only one of them can lead to a prize.
The model rests on the “no purchase necessary” principle of a sweepstakes. You can always get the prize currency for free, through a sign-up bonus, daily rewards or a request by mail. Buying is optional and only ever buys you Gold Coins.
Gold Coins: the play-for-fun currency
Gold Coins (GC) are for entertainment only. You get a stack when you join, more every day, and you can buy extra packs if you want to. They have no cash value and can never be redeemed. Crown Coins uses its own name, Crown Coins (CC), for the same idea.
Gold Coins are useful for learning a game before you play it with prize coins. Chumba, for example, tops your Gold Coin balance back up for free when it falls below GC 12,500.
Sweeps Coins: the coins behind every sweeps coins casino
Sweeps Coins (SC) are the promotional entries that can be turned into prizes. No site sells them on their own. You collect them through welcome offers, logins, giveaways and postal requests, or receive them as an extra with certain Gold Coin packs.
Names differ by brand. Chumba, Sportzino, Zula, Yay Casino and Crown Coins say Sweeps Coins, Modo, Hello Millions, McLuck and Pulsz say Sweepstakes Coins, and Stake.us calls them Stake Cash. Funzpoints uses Premium Funzpoints, where 100 equal $1.
At most sites in our list, 1 SC won through play is worth $1 in prize value. Free coins usually have to be played through once (1x) before wins count toward a redemption, and they expire if you stay away too long, typically 60 days after your last login or SC play.
No purchase necessary: the mail-in route
Every sweepstakes casino offers an Alternative Method of Entry (AMOE). You handwrite a request card with a code from your account and post it, and the operator credits free Sweeps Coins. It is slow, but it guarantees you can always play for prizes without buying.

How sweepstakes casinos make money
Sweepstakes casinos earn their revenue by selling Gold Coin packages. A pack often includes some free Sweeps Coins on top, which is the main reason players buy, yet the prize coins are never sold by themselves. Price ranges vary: Hello Millions sells packs from $1.99 to $299.99, McLuck from $1.99 to $99.99, and Crown Coins’ smallest pack with Sweeps Coins costs $4.99 for 100,000 CC plus 5 free SC.
How sweepstakes casino redemptions work
Redeeming follows the same four steps almost everywhere:
- Verify your account. Expect a photo ID, a selfie and a recent proof of address. Hello Millions and McLuck use Veriff and review within 48 hours, Pulsz takes 48 to 72 hours, and Sportzino, Zula and Yay Casino say 3 to 7 business days.
- Play your coins through. Free Sweeps Coins must usually be played once before wins count. Stake.us asks for 3x on bonus Stake Cash.
- Reach the minimum. The lowest floors in our list are 10 SC for a gift card (Chumba, Hello Millions, McLuck) and 50 SC for cash (Modo, Sportzino, Zula, Crown Coins, Yay Casino).
- Pick a payout route. Bank transfer is standard. Some sites add PayPal, Cash App, Skrill, virtual cards, gift cards or crypto.

Sweepstakes casino real money prizes: what you can win
You cannot deposit or bet dollars at a sweepstakes casino, but you can win prizes with real cash value. When you redeem Sweeps Coins won through play, the operator pays a cash prize to your bank or another method, or sends a gift card. At most brands in our list the rate is 1 SC to $1, so 50 SC becomes a $50 prize.
There are limits on the way out, and they are worth reading before you play:
- Daily redemption caps: Sportzino, Zula and Yay Casino allow up to 9,550 SC a day. Chumba and McLuck may cap prizes at $10,000 a day.
- Win caps: Sportzino caps wins below 40,000 SC per 48 hours, and Yay Casino at 10,000 SC per 48 hours.
- State caps: Stake.us lets Florida players redeem up to $5,000 a day, and Modo up to $5,000 per monthly entry period in Florida.
- Request limits: Modo allows one Trustly instant redemption a day, Zula one request per 24 hours, and Hello Millions and McLuck one every 48 hours.
Prizes can count as income. Modo asks for your SSN once your redemptions pass $600, and Funzpoints asks for the last four digits of your SSN before a redemption. Speak to a tax professional about your own situation.

Every sweepstakes casino on our list gives you coins for free just for joining, so each one works as a free sweepstakes casino from day one. Sweepstakes casino sign up bonus on your first purchase
Buying is never required, but most sites add a bigger deal to your first Gold Coin pack. At Hello Millions the first pack brings GC 120,000 and 60 SC, plus a wheel spin that can add 500 SC. Crown Coins promises at least 150% extra coins, Pulsz a Welcome Bundle with 200% or more extra Gold Coins, and McLuck a three-stage offer across your first three purchases. Global Poker, which is not part of our toplist, offers 200,000 GC for $20 (usually $40) with 40 free SC.
These offers mostly show their exact price only inside the store, so compare the free Sweeps Coins per dollar before you decide.
Free Sweeps Coins after day one
The sign-up bonus is only the start. Daily logins are the steadiest source of free Sweeps Coins: McLuck pays up to 2.50 SC a day, Zula up to 1 SC a day, and Sportzino and Yay Casino run seven-day streaks that grow each day. On top of that come social media giveaways, weekly draws (Hello Millions and McLuck each have at least 100 winners a week) and free tournaments such as Sportzino’s Daily Events Arena.
Referrals can be worth more than the welcome itself. Crown Coins pays 400,000 CC and 20 SC per friend who buys $14.90 or more, Zula 20,000 GC and 2 SC for each of your first 10 friends, and Sportzino up to 1,442,300 GC and 30 SC per friend depending on their first package.
Playthrough and expiry on free coins
A 1x playthrough is the norm, which means you play each free Sweeps Coin once before wins from it can be redeemed. Some rulebooks leave room for more on specific coins: Chumba can set 20x and Modo 30x. Stake.us sets 3x on bonus Stake Cash. At Yay Casino, 8 of the 13 welcome SC only unlock after 150 SC-mode spins in week one.
Free coins also expire. Stay away for 60 days and your balance can lapse: Sportzino, Zula, Yay Casino and Chumba count from your last login, Hello Millions and McLuck from your last SC play.
Do you need a promo code?
Usually not. At Sportzino, Zula and Yay Casino each completed step pays out on the spot, and Hello Millions and McLuck credit coins once your account is verified. A few patterns stand out among the newcomers. Two of them, SpinBlitz and PlayFame, come from the same Isle of Man group as McLuck and Hello Millions, and their help centers list the same 18 excluded states. PlayFame is the one to note for crypto: its help center covers crypto purchases and says crypto redemptions typically process on the blockchain within a few hours.
Spree uses its own name for the prize currency, Spree Coins, and pays 4 Spree Coins per mail-in request. Punt sets a higher bar than our top picks, with 3x playthrough on Sweeps Coins and a 100 SC minimum for a prize, and it accepts Visa, Mastercard and Discover only. Rolling Riches also has a 100 SC minimum and caps prizes at $1,000 a day.
Several of these brands publish state lists that are shorter than the state laws described below. We do not treat any new brand as available in a state that has passed a sweepstakes law, and we will add them to our main list once their full reviews are done.

Slots fill most of every lobby, with Hold and Win, Megaways, cascading reels and buy-feature games everywhere. Installable web apps
Where a brand has no store app, you can often add the site to your home screen. Sportzino and Pulsz offer installable web apps next to their native apps, and Stake.us suggests the same on Android. Chumba plays in the browser and also publishes Chumba Lite, a separate free-play app on the App Store without Sweeps Coins.

Buying coins and crypto at an online sweepstakes casino
Most sites take cards. Several add Apple Pay, Google Pay, Skrill or online banking through Trustly, and Crown Coins lets you pay cash at stores through PayNearMe. Chumba also has its own Chumba Prepaid Mastercard.
Only three of our top 10 take crypto, based on what their help centers say:

What states allow sweepstakes casinos?
There is no single answer, because each operator keeps its own list. As of October 23, 2026, none of the ten brands in our toplist listed these 23 states as excluded or Gold Coin only: Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
In many other states, some brands are available and others are not. Georgia, for example, is excluded at Sportzino only, and Pennsylvania and Vermont only at Stake.us. Check the brand’s own list before you sign up, and remember that the check is based on where you are physically located, not only on your home address.
States that restrict sweepstakes casinos
Ten states have passed laws aimed at online sweepstakes casinos. This guide does not cover Sweeps Coins play in these states:
- California: AB 831 (Chapter 623, Statutes of 2025), signed October 11, 2025, in effect from January 1, 2026.
- New York: S5935A (Chapter 605 of 2025), signed December 5, 2025.
- New Jersey: P.L. 2025, c.128, approved August 15, 2025.
- Connecticut: Public Act 25-112, in effect from October 1, 2025.
- Montana: SB 555 (2025).
- Indiana: HB 1052 (2026), with civil penalties from July 1, 2026.
- Maine: LD 2007 (Public Law 2025 ch. 645), enacted April 6, 2026.
- Tennessee: Public Chapter 1117 (2026), signed May 27, 2026.
- Louisiana: Acts 48 and 182 of 2026, in effect from August 1, 2026.
- Oklahoma: SB 1589, due to take effect on November 1, 2026.
Operators are adjusting to these laws one by one. On November 1, 2026, Oklahoma drops off the map at Hello Millions and McLuck and loses Sweepstakes Coins at Modo, while Pulsz has already moved the state to Gold Coins. Sportzino ended Sweeps play in California, Tennessee and Louisiana, Zula in California and Tennessee, and Pulsz in Indiana in June 2026.
Illinois, Maryland and other state actions
Some states act without a specific law. The Illinois Gaming Board has published letters, all dated February 4, 2026, ordering a long list of sweepstakes brands to cease and desist, among them Chumba Casino, Crown Coins, McLuck, Pulsz and Stake; you can read the Illinois Gaming Board’s list. Newer brands on that list include SpinBlitz, PlayFame, Punt, RealPrize, Legendz and Funrize. We do not list any brand as a pick for Illinois players.
In Maryland, Funzpoints owner Woopla appears on the regulator’s list of cease-and-desist recipients, and the brand has since added Maryland to its exclusions. VGW, which owns Chumba and Global Poker, agreed to pay $8 million in a settlement announced by New York’s Attorney General in September 2026, without admitting liability. In Florida, the Attorney General sued the operator of Stake.us on August 19, 2026, and the case is pending.

Start with your state
Open the brand’s own state list before anything else. A site that is Gold Coin only where you live gives you free play but no prizes. Our table above is a starting point, but operators update their lists often.
Count the free Sweeps Coins, not the Gold Coins
Big Gold Coin numbers look impressive, but only Sweeps Coins can become prizes. Yay Casino (13 SC), Zula (10 SC) and Sportzino (7 SC) give the most free SC at sign-up in our list, while Chumba’s 2 million GC come with 2 SC.
Check the redemption floor and the route
